HELLO GALLERY TOKYO is pleased to announce our collaboration with a Japanese artist Hoki, the exhibition titled " Hello! Tsunoda" starting from Friday 21st July. Hoki's representative character is called“Tsunoda” as it has “tsuno” which means "horn" in Japanese. Despite its half-human, half-beast fantasy appearance, his Japanese animation style somehow evokes a sense of familiarity. Horns are the symbol of "strength and bravery" as a male. Contrary to his dim expression, the horns, which are always present as if they were natural, sometimes seem heavy and even too rugged on his head. Tsunoda's appearance is a personification of the process by which a person develops strength, and it is also the pessimistic side that constantly appears within what makes someone stronger. In this exhibition, in addition to 12 canvas works, Hoki's symbolic "horn" portrait, and several wood works, are making the venue full of playfulness. この度、HELLO GALLERY TOKYOでは、7月21日金曜日より、ホキ個展「Hello! Tsunoda」を開催いたします。ホキの作品の中心となる「ツノダ」というキャラクターには、その名の通り「角（つの）」が生えており、彼を中心に物語は広がっていきます。半人間、半野獣のファンタジーな容姿でありながらも、キャンバスの中の空気はどこか現実味を帯びており、その舞台はいつもありふれた日常の一コマです。 ツノダの表情はいつもやや不憫で、焦点も感情もおぼろに見えるでしょう。しかし彼の持つ「角」は雄としての「強さや勇敢さ」の象徴であり、彼の表情とは裏腹に当たり前のように常に存在しています。それは時として、彼の頭には重たげに見え、いかなる場面においてもゴツゴツと伸び続けているようです。ツノダの姿は、人が強さを育む過程そのものであり、強さの中に絶えず現れる悲観的側面でもあると言えるでしょう。今回の個展では、キャンバス作品12点に加え、ホキの象徴となる「ツノ」の肖像、さらに木材で制作されたツノダたちが、会場を遊び心いっぱいにしてくれています。ぜひこの機会に、ツノダに会いにお越しくださいませ。
